Their school week begins with announcements from the principal, songs, a pledge to the Panamanian flag and the national anthem. Their word of the week is responsibility. These students are not so unlike my students in Naples. They are happy, smart, funny and curious. The teachers apologized to me for minor talking or for students not having a pencil. I assured her that kiddos are kiddos and that often my students in Florida talk too much and don't bring pencils to class. : )
I WILL continue to work with the school in the future and help however I can. For these students, learning English can lead to better opportunities in life. Jennifer and Lee have offered free room and board for English teachers to come volunteer teach for a month at a time, or less if necessary. If you are interested, please contact me at jstevens@communityschoolnaples.org or contact Jennifer at ltcjenscott@gmail.com.
PLEASE watch the videos! These kids are adorable!
